He left his last start with a bad back and has coughed up seven runs in seven innings in two career appearances against the Royals. And it might not make a huge difference, but it won't do any good that Chicago's pitching coach, Don Cooper (vertigo), has missed two games and likely will miss this one and more. Kansas City's bullpen has a 0.69 ERA in its last five contests.
